History of an Irish Jewelry Store

College House Jewellers

Situated on Nassau Street, right in the heart of Dublin City, College House Jewellers celebrated 40 years of business in 2003. In the same year, we opened our first online store.

The anniversary represented four decades of successful trading, which has seen the family-run company grow to be one of the most respected jewellers in the city. The jewelers benifits from a prime location, adjacent to Trinity College in an area famed for its large selection of quality craft shops.

Taking pride of place in the store is the handcrafted range of History of Ireland jewellery. The selection, available in Gold, Silver and White Gold features 12 image panels that portray the history of Ireland. The panels are evocative of those on the Celtic high crosses, and take their inspiration from all eras of Irish history, from the coming of Christianity with Saint Patrick, to the Treaty of 1921 and the partition of the country. Learn more about the panels here.

College House Jewellers also carries an exquisite range of hand-made wedding bands and diamond set Claddagh rings.

The Store

The store was opened in 1963 by Manuel Gavin who had moved over from Scotland in 1947. Manuel Gavin had already a wealth of experience in the trade, having owned a successful jewellers on Aungier Street, and later the fondly remembered Gavin's Jewellers on George's Street.

Today the jewellers is run by Manuel Gavin's son Peter, who has worked in the store since the day of its opening. A true veteran of the trade, Peter brings a wealth of experience, as well as his own affable and friendly personality to the store.
